Why should it be a criminal offence to possess/smoke cannabis and not a criminal offence to not wear a seat belt?

Read a great piece this morning on how legalisation in so much of the US is destroying the violent drug cartels in Mexico. Prohibition fosters violence.
Not wearing a seat belt may not be a “criminal offense” but you can still get fined for it – $150 when I got pinged for it back in the late 90s. Another nanny state assault on liberty. Even worse, cars made since the early 2000s all have seat belt sensors – nanny on board! You can’t disable them without setting off the airbag warning light, and if that’s on, you can’t get a warrant….grrrr…..

Where?
True… and prohibition is itself violence.

Seat belt laws are justified by ownership of the roads. You’re not free to do whatever you want on communal land.
