Maui Pomare delivered this speech in the House on 9 December 1918—NZPD vol. 183, p. 1033—three & a half weeks after the Armistice. 🧵 [1/2] He was the first Maori doctor, Western Maori MP, later Minister of Health. His grandmother, Kahe Te Rau-o-te-rangi, signed the Treaty. That is the record, not a reconstruction.

Ka ao! Ka ao! Ka awatea! — Then they turned the lights back off.

In December 1918, with the guns barely silent, Dr Maui Pomare stood in Parliament and spoke as if New Zealand were one house. He opened in te reo, then translated himself so no one could pretend they had not heard:

“Come hither. Draw nigh. Give me the living waters. The old have slept badly, for night is when dark deeds are done. The tide of misfortune runs to oblivion. But now it is dawn. It is day.”

Then the unforgivable sentences, by today’s liturgical standards:

“Thank God the sun of peace reigns. Tell His Majesty our Emperor of our unswerving loyalty. If the call of Empire comes again we shall defend it to the death. If need be, as in the past, stand back to back with our white brothers of this Dominion to the last man.

Never again must any Polynesian be put under the heel of the despicable Hun. We know the Samoans, our kin. We know the Hereros. That is enough.

For seventy-eight years we have not been under the rule of the British, but taking a part in the ruling of ourselves.

The foundations of British sovereignty are liberty, equity and justice.

In the last fight of all, our house will stand together and its pillars will not fall.

Farewell. Bon voyage. Kia ora.”

That was not a footnote. That was a senior Maori MP, physician, minister-in-waiting, grandson of a Treaty signatory, speaking for chiefs he said he wanted to send as “an authoritative voice from the Polynesian race.”

He did not say partnership of two founding peoples. He did not say co-governance. He did not say the 1840 document created a permanent racial estate with a veto. He said one house, one Empire, one set of principles, and a readiness to die beside the Pakeha next to him.

A century later the inheritors of the same parliamentary seats treat that speech as if it were a colonial ventriloquist act.

The approved history now runs: the Treaty established a sacred partnership; the partnership was betrayed;
the only remedy is a thickening lattice of race-specific institutions, “principles” invented in the 1980s, and a politics that recodes every ordinary civic disagreement as colonial violence.

The imported software is obvious—Critical Race Theory’s original-sin ledger, anti-colonial theory’s settler/indigene binary, & a Palestine Liberation-Front habit of treating the majority as occupiers who must be made to feel illegitimate in their own country.

The local branding is “honouring Te Tiriti.” The product is the opposite of what Pomare described.

The hypocrisy is athletic.

The same tradition that produced a man who recruited Maori for the Pioneer Battalion so they could prove citizenship now produces politicians who treat citizenship as a consolation prize and “rangatiratanga” as a separate constitution. The same people who invoke 1840 as holy writ skip 1918 as if Pomare had been possessed.

They speak of alleged, not necessarily proven, historical wrongs as if the Waitangi Tribunal Union’s expanding jurisdiction were a court of first instance rather than a political commission whose findings become scripture. They demand race-based health authorities, co-governed water, and Treaty clauses in everything from resource consents to school lunches, then call it social justice when the numbers do not close the gaps that Pomare spent his life trying to close with sanitation, hospitals, & an end to tohunga quackery.

Pōmare’s own career is inconvenient. He believed many customary practices were killing his people. He supported the Tohunga Suppression Act. He extended conscription to Māori and was greeted in Waikato with the most extreme insult in the repertoire.

The Australian Jewish Association (AJA) is urging all Members of Parliament to reject the draft ‘hate speech’ bill

AJA CEO Robert Gregory said:

“Antisemitism has surged in Australia under the Albanese Government, and it is clear that decisive action is required. While the proposed bill contains some potentially useful measures, the manner in which it is being rushed through Parliament is deeply concerning.

This process denies Australians the opportunity to properly scrutinise and comment on legislation of significant consequence. I have spoken with members of the Jewish community who are shocked that measures purportedly designed to protect them are being introduced without genuine consultation. The Australian Jewish Association was invited to make a submission but was given less than two days to do so, despite the significance of this legislation.

The Government’s haste is particularly offensive given its failure to act on the Segal Report, which was handed to it in July 2025 by the Special Envoy on Antisemitism, an envoy the Government itself appointed.

It is also unclear what problem this bill is intended to solve. The Bondi Beach Chanukah massacre was allegedly motivated by radical Islamic ideology, yet the proposed legislation goes out of its way to avoid confronting that reality. By excluding radical Islamic extremism, it is difficult to see how this legislation will have any impact on preventing future Bondi-style attacks. If the legislation is expanded, as expected, it could perversely result in victims being prosecuted for criticising the ideology that inspired the violence against them.

Furthermore, the bill’s carve-out for hate preachers fatally undermines its effectiveness.

There are serious concerns that the Government intends to expand this bill to cover additional ‘protected attributes’, potentially criminalising the sincerely held views of many Australians, particularly people of faith. Ironically, many of the victims of the Bondi Beach attack were religious Jews whose traditional beliefs may themselves fall foul of future expansions of this legislation. For that reason, this bill will rightly be seen as an attack on religious freedom.

Any government that proposes to criminalise speech must act in a sober, cautious, and bipartisan manner. Governments should concern themselves only with the most egregious forms of speech, such as direct incitement to violence. This bill risks regulating subjective opinions and relies on vague concepts such as ‘intimidation’. Australia risks heading down the same path as the United Kingdom, where thousands of people are arrested each year merely for expressing opinions.

I am deeply concerned that invoking the Jewish community as the justification for this deeply flawed bill will, in fact, lead to an increase in antisemitism.

I have consulted with leaders from other religious organisations, and they share these concerns. Legislation of this magnitude must command broad community support. Australians, both Jewish and non-Jewish, must be given the opportunity to have their voices heard. I urge all Members of Parliament to reject this bill.”

My Commentary….
Just as I believe the case was with NZs Radical Globalist PM Jacinda Ardern and her Gun Confiscation legislation which immediately dropped just days after the Christchurch Terror attack,
Many Australians believe the Albanese Labour Regime has had their 500 page draft legislation… ‘The Combatting Antisemitism, Hate and Extremism Bill 2026’… that outlaws criticism of his governments immigration policies, and bans the patriotic fervor of Australians for their own heritage and culture was sitting ready to go in a draw waiting for the opportunity to rush it through into law.

Like Ardern, Albanese has attempted to use The murderous Terror attack on Jews at Bondi by Islamic extremists as pretext to call parliament back into session early so as to push through this absolutely shocking piece of legislation into Law before the people of Australia have time to rally against it.

The Bill is supposed to combat Antisemitism.
It does nothing of the sort.

Thankfully… due to outrage expressed on the Social Media platform X none of the other parties in the Australian parliament are prepared to support his bill… and as you can see (above statement)… not even the Jewish community supports it.

The above statement by the Australian Jewish Association clearly states that the bill utterly fails to address Islamic extremism which was the key factor involved in the Bondi Attack, and also the legislation is a violation of Australians Rights, and Religious liberty including the religious liberty of Australian Jews!

Yet let’s be clear about this… they will come back again and again until they get what they want *unless* some constitutional Legislation is framed that specifically and permanently outlaws this and establishes the fundamental right of citizens not to be assimilated into any such means of Absolute control or Social credit system.

This needs to be coupled with an Iron clad right to privacy which prevents Banks spying on what citizens are spending their money on, or from being able to demand to know what large withdraws of cash are being used for. The right to use cash must also be constitutionally guaranteed.

Governments must also be constitutionally barred from attempts to impede free speech on line.
This has become an essential right to defend freedom from tyrannical agendas.

Then there is the violations of privacy from setting up surveillance cameras on every street corner. There must be legislative protections that forbid governments from using these to imprison individuals from freedom of movement (outlaw the concepts of 15min cities- Carbon limits, etc)

All these legislative moves are required because of massive leaps in technology that Governments and corporations have been deploying against us without mandate from We the people… implementing Tech programs that exponentially increase government and corporate power at the expense of the peoples Rights and liberties.

All the legislative changes I’m suggesting are all *Limits to State and Corporate intrusions* of Citizens lives the absence of which has allowed totalitarian designs and agendas to be devised and rolled out taking advantage of the Void of protective limits on the use of technology.

Explaining The Virtue of Tolerance.

The virtue of tolerance exists within strict limits. Outside those limits it turns to Vice.

Elon Musk seems to struggle with this nuance.

There are Far right extremists out there who seek to misrepresent Tolerance… and make out Tolerance is a vise.
Tolerance is a virtue… yet always tolerance is conditional.

There are limit’s to tolerance.
Paul the apostle put’s it this way… “If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, be peaceably with all men. ”
Rom 12vs 8.
We may ask what are the minimum terms by which it is possible to live peaceably with others?
This is simple.
The mutual respect of each others Equal rights.
Any Person whom will respect your rights… that is someone with whom peaceful co-existence is possible.
They may have different personal religious opinions with which you may disagree… yet as long as they do not seek to impose their contrary opinions on anyone by force. These people fall within the scope of Civil human beings.
Yet If others will not respect your rights… you cannot live peaceably with such people. They are a threat to you.
That is beyond the bounds of tolerance.
This is why Rights are fundamental to a Free and civil… and tolerant society. So Islamics who do not seek to impose Sharia Law on society may be tolerated, yet Islamic who seek to overthrow our free society and compel Islam upon others… or believe they have the right to persecute, rob, rape, and kill non-Muslims those people cannot be tollerated… there can be no peaceful co-existence with them.
Thus Tolerance is neither Black or white, but has important nuance.
We must never allow the Far right extremists to fool us into thinking Tolerance is foolishness, or weakness, or wrong, yet nor should we allow the woke to fool us into sacrificing all our values and ideals for the sake of a ‘suicidal tolerance of Evil’.

The American Founding Fathers would say… Be tolerant… but also be Well armed… and take no Bullshit. There is a Bottom line beyond with tolerance cannot be stretched.

Free speech is founded upon the virtue of tolerance.
