An anti-rape protest has been organised in Palmerston North to put a spotlight on rape culture, following the Roast Busters scandal.
The Roast Busters is a group of Auckland youths, understood to be aged 17 and 18, who allegedly had group sex with drunk, underage teenage girls and bragged about it online.
The case was yesterday referred to the Independent Police Conduct Authority after it was brought to light that four girls complained to police, but prosecutions were not made.
I don’t understand why these people are marching. It seems the Police have acted badly but the protest is not specifically targeting the Police.
… Palmerston North event co-ordinator Mark Byford said: “Hopefully it sends a message to young people, especially in Palmerston North and the wider area, that rape isn’t OK, it isn’t acceptable in society,” he said. “It’s getting our voices out there and showing to the wider public that it’s wrong and we’re taking a stand against it.”
Young people think rape is acceptable? I don’t believe that.
Rape is illegal and probably the most hated crime in our culture – especially when the victim is a young girl.
I see that “Rape Culture” is a feminist concept but I don’t get what’s going on or what they are trying to achieve. Can someone put a spotlight on rape culture protests for me please.
I can’t. But I do hope that whatever ‘rape culture’ comprises 1/ false rape complaints and 2/ same-sex rape are included. Because at the moment all I hear is females as victims.
Protesting against rape is a bit like protesting against war and murder and bad people. It would be nice if all those things went away, but we know it ain’t going to happen. Seems a bit pointless unless you are seeking concrete policy action on the issue from authorities.
Good one Reed.
There is a lot more that can be said about this ‘witch hunt’ …. esp in regard to Lax parental responsibility and the godless Liberal morality which has permeated youthful society from the Top down.
Thus what the liberal Feminists are calling a ‘culture of rape’ is in reality the fruit of their own ‘sexual revolution’ and the abandonment of traditional Christian values in respect to marriage, Children out of Wedlock, and the whole Culture of Drunken sex…. practised by one and all.
Ie The young Boys and girls are not doing anything their elders don’t boast about!
…Getting shit-faced drunk and having sex with strangers is the norm today.
Thus the Reek of hypocrisy behind this fake ‘outrage’
The Parents themselves accept no responsibility for what their children are getting up to…. and it’s been going on for several generations now.
If you dont want your teen age daughter getting drunk and banged both ends then you had better fulfill your parental duties. by keeping a close eye on where she’s going at night, and with whom.
You need to teach your young adults about the dangers of Alcohol… loosing your ability to function… the loosening of moral restraint…. etc.
Your Boys could end up in court (yet the Girls should do too… they are just as guilty)
I am not saying that It is ok to give alcohol and bang under-age girls, but I am saying its quite normal teenage rebellious behaviour these days …. emulating their elders…. and who among us can say we didnt get up to that same Teen stuff our selves????
I guess the girls escape because they a deemed to young to prosecute.
Most people I knew as a teenager didn’t get up to this stuff. I can remember a few guys that did (although I doubt age differences would have been much) and AFAIK the girls were as much a part of what was going on as the guys were.
Where I lived guys were called “cradle snatchers” if they showed interest in much younger girls.
Definitely not accepted behaviour in the teen culture I saw.
I am speaking from personal experience.
I left home when I was 15.
I was buying Rum from the bottlestore at 15.
The Girls I was ‘hang with’ were 14…. and older.
I was a Dumb arse.
I am not saying any of this was Legal.
But It happened every day of the week…. and it is still happening.
By 15 I had already been busted for Pot(You gotta love Dem Pigs).
I dont say it was/ is right… yet I cant be a Hypocrite.
I was the product of a broken home…. yet I dont claim that as an excuse.
I was an atheist at the time …. as far as I was concerned it was *normal behaviour* .
And believe me that is tame considering the shit that goes down in some places….
Tim
It was just this bit…
Lots of people didn’t get up to the same stuff.
Other than that I agree with you – especially about the fruit of Feminism.
Trying to help others to avoid mistakes that you made would not be hypocritical.
Tim,
I am speaking from personal experience
I am talking about many many women.
I never ran away from home, I didn’t drink until I was 21yrs old, I was a goodie two shoes, under excellent parental control, as were most of my social set and yet…..
I know many women who were abused/raped by Christian married men, “practicing traditional Christian values in respect to marriage”
I know these things happened within the 4 walls of their own homes
I know these things were done to them while they were stone cold sober
I know these things were done while under the care of their parents, sometimes it was their parents doing the “banging from both ends”, well specifically the man parent/relative/teacher/preacher.
My friends and I never got up to what you say is common ie drinking and having sex underage but my friends and I did get raped/abused.
I was a Christian at the time. It makes not a jot of difference. Rapists are rapists.
Your words are hurtful.
Heather
Did your abuser or rapist get punished adequately?
Was there any attempt at restitution?
I’d support the death penalty for rapes and I’d advocate that mercy be in the hands of the victims.
Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.
A death penalty would only be evil if it were disproportionate to the crime.
If it is proportionate to the crime it would not be revenge it would be justice.
Richard, does that scripture imply that we shouldn’t seek/support/advocate proportionate penalties for crimes?
Reed,
It’s complicated. Another victim went to police so yes there was a conviction but he pleaded guilty to one minor charge and got PD. It was viewed as the best outcome as it meant the victim didn’t need to go through court. One of the victims would be unable to testify (intellectually disabled, others overseas etc.). I, to my everlasting guilt, never even made a complaint until another person came forward. The other crimes I mentioned (at least 10 women, different men) there were no charges laid on any of the men. Believe that 1 in 3 statistic. It’s real.
Just to be crystal clear, for those that know me, it’s not my father I’m talking about. He’s the sweetest kindest man in the world.
Heather, why do you feel guilt?
Well maybe if I’d said something at the time the offending might have stopped and other victims might have never become victims. Having said that, even post the conviction, I would be almost certain there has been further offending.
You’re not to blame at all for what he did to you or to the others.
Even if you could have stopped him, which I doubt, I don’t think you had any duty to seek justice.
Murder is a worse crime than rape.
Revenge is getting even, settling the score.
Reed, I think it does. But I’m not sure.
‘Proportionate’ does not necessarily imply a 1:1 ratio.
Something changed between Leviticus 24:19-21 and Matthew 5:38-48. Was it justice?
Be perfect, Reed, as your heavenly Father is perfect. 🙂
Some people commit suicide after being raped. For them I’d say rape was worse than murder.
“Revenge” has a negative emotional meaning and if we were talking about a disproportionate or evil response “revenge” would be the appropriate word.
Take it on the chin when you are wronged in a small way.
If someone stabs you in your right lung don’t offer him your left lung also. 🙂
God wants you to be generous therefore socialism?
God wants you to take injustices on the chin therefore require others to not get justice?
Justice hasn’t been done away with.
What is justice?
