An American investment banker was at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large yellowfin tuna. The American complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them.
The Mexican replied, “Only a little while.” The American then asked why didn’t he stay out longer and catch more fish? The Mexican said he had enough to support his family’s immediate needs. The American then asked, “But what do you do with the rest of your time?”
The Mexican fisherman said, “I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take siestas with my wife Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine and play guitar with my amigos. I have a full and busy life.”
The American scoffed, “I am a Harvard MBA and could help you. You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds buy a bigger boat. With the proceeds from the bigger boat you could buy several boats, eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to a middleman you would sell directly to the processor, eventually opening your own cannery. You would control the product, processing, and distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then LA and eventually New York City, where you will run your expanding enterprise.”
The Mexican fisherman asked, “But, how long will this all take?”
To which the American replied, “15—20 years.”
“But what then?” asked the Mexican.
The American laughed and said, “That’s the best part. When the time is right you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich, you would make millions!”
“Millions—then what?”
The American said, “Then you would retire. Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take siestas with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos.”

This blog post started out as a simple tribute to Peter Steele, whose Music added flavour to my own life and whose death I felt as a tragic loss.
I did not know a great deal about him other than his music and so I started watching Youtube video interviews and what surprised me was how often he would slip in claims of being a Christian, usually in between some other strange comments… in particular his often claim that he actually *wanted to die.*
Now of course someone who belongs to a band called ‘Type O Negitive’ who wrote songs like ‘Everything dies’ and specialized on blatantly nihilistic themes, it should not be shocking at all to appreciate the Front man had a Morbid Fixation about Death, yet as a Christian myself I began to wonder if this Fixation had in fact stimulated some *Real contemplation* and that perhaps his random claims of being a Christian were something more than taking the Mickey.
It did not take much effort to discover that Peter Steele…. despite Everything his music represents… was indeed one of those amazing Heavy Metal Stars who with age… came to some form of Christian Faith before he died.
Though many of his fans would not at all be pleased by this , it was fantastic news to me, and a token of how *Real* a person he was because he would have known how unpopular his public conversion would be with many of his Fans.
Many wont want to acknowledge this aspect of their Idol and will probably slag me for blogging about it, yet I want to tell his fans that his bravery in ‘Coming out in favour of Christ’ was actually a great act of Love he had for his fans… He was showing them the way.
Though he did not seek to ram Religion down peoples throats, yet neither did he want to be an Apostle of Nihilism and Irreligion.
He does not want his Fans to think that Life is pointless and that Good and Evil are meaningless terms.
I can justify these things by his comments… listed below.
So Peter was not only a great Artist, but was very Honest and of great depth… and he was also a member of a growing number of Hard Rock/ Metal Icons who have professed belief in Christ… and I can relate to this myself as a Head Banger and Christian.

And so I hope that Peter Steele / Type O Negitive Fans can appreciate the vital truth that His conversion implies, and dont harden their hearts and carry on the Charade of *Thinking that the Heavy Metal Fantasy* is a blueprint for real life to be emulated by real people!
It is a Show… an act…. a story… that should be making you contemplate the Higher truths and searching for the meaning of Life.
Like Alice Cooper, Brian Welch, Dave Mustaine, and Others… Peter found out that Wealth, Fame, and Fortune, are insufficient in themselves to give real value to a persons life.
That Meaning and Salvation is Found in faith in God, and Jesus Christ.
Ask yourself Who in their Right mind actually thinks Alice Cooper, or Blackie Lawless’s Stage show personas are to be take seriously?

I can only speculate about the interesting perspectives he would have shared if he had had more time.

So I hope ‘a light turns on’ in the minds of Metal fans who read this tribute rather than simply getting angry at the thought of taking Christianity seriously, or feeling that Peter ‘Betrayed’ the hedonist cause.
He did you the best favour he could possibly do.
He showed that *Keeping it real* sometimes being brave enough to swim against the current, and be willing to suffer malice and hate, for the sake of being true to yourself and not living as a fraud.
So Rock on Metal Fans…. enjoy life… but dont be a complete moron and deny the true meaning of Life that comes from Knowing Jesus Christ.

“Most of you have probably never heard of Peter Steele, (left) who passed away last month at the age of 48 from heart failure. Steele was the bassist and lead singer from the band Type O Negative, a popular group in the 1990’s that was at the cutting edge of the emerging “gothic” music scene and culture – you know, all those whiny, self-pitying teens who dye their hair black and try to look like vampires? Though Type O Negative, as a niche band, never attained a real popular mass market appeal, they did sustain a strong underground following throughout the 90’s and into the new millennium. Steele set the group apart by his haunting, baritone vocals in an age when most goth/metal bands looked for male singers who could do alto or soprano. Attempting to sound as “gothic” as possible, the band’s music often featured church organs and choirs, as well as slow, creepy rhythms (think of the Addam’s Family theme song).

So why is this news? A rock-star dies before his age? Is this surprising for someone who dallied in the occult (and professed atheism), exulted vampires as role models and sung about sacrilege, fornication and demonology? I recall listening to Type O Negative when I was 14, and this music definitely got me interested and involved in occult spirituality (I even had a brief vampire phase that thankfully proved very temporary). How many other young people were lured into the occult through this sort of music that exalts vampires and everything dark? And why am I bringing this up on my blog?
Because shortly before his death, Peter Steele converted to Christianity and even claimed to be a Roman Catholic. He went on talk shows speaking about how God has a plan for everybody and stated that one thing that helped bring him to Christianity was the conviction that there had to be some justice in life beyond this world; in his own words, that “someone like Stalin or Hitler just couldn’t wind up in the same place as Mother Teresa.” This sudden change appalled his fans (who thought he had sold out) and amazed Christians, who were once again reminded that nobody is beyond God’s grace. His was definitely the most unexpected conversion since the 2005 conversion of Korn guitarist Brian “Head” Welch. Unfortunately, unlike Welch, Steele died very soon after announcing his conversion.”

My late father was a good keen outdoorsman. He loved sailing and hiking but back in the early ’70s we lived in the Midlands in the heart of England, a long way from bodies of water bigger than puddles and mountain peaks worth climbing.
Also my father worked in the British motor industry and in the early ’70s he could see that the industry was starting to tank. So he and my mother decided that the family would emigrate to somewhere with bigger wilderness and better job prospects. IIRC, the options were the U.S, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand. Fortunately, my mother vetoed the U.S., otherwise we might have ended up in Detroit. We emigrated to New Zealand in 1975 and settled in Wellington.
I’m glad that we did. I still have a bond with the mother country but I’m a Kiwi now. I spent my childhood in England but grew up in Godzone. When I became an adult I also became a NZ citizen. So to cut a long story short, what I’m getting around to saying is that because of my background I’m personally rather fond of the current NZ flag. It consists of the Union Jack which represents the land of my birth and the Southern Cross which represents my adopted homeland. But I’m not voting to keep it. Why not?
Now don’t get me wrong. I’m not voting to change to the John Key tea towel design either. I’m not voting in the second flag referendum and I didn’t vote in the first. Why not?
Firstly, because my vote won’t make a difference. The current flag is winning in all the recent opinion polls by a clear margin. Twice as many people are against change as are for it. I’m calling the result of the second flag referendum now. No change.
Secondly, because no one can change my flag. I don’t have a flag! I don’t want a flag, but if did I could have any flag I wanted and stick it on a pole and fly it. Many Kiwis already fly the unofficial New Zealand flag, the silver fern. Good on them. Go the All Blacks! No worries.
We have 99 problems in NZ – a fucking flag isn’t one of them.
Voting only encourages these arseholes.
Fourthly, because the entire flag referendum process is a needless waste of money which would be better spent elsewhere and I refuse to sanction it by voting. Flag this irrelevant debate and spend $26m on hungry kids. Is what the government would have better done instead.
Fifthly, because a state-initiated binding referendum is a slap in the face to the hundreds of thousands of Kiwis who’ve signed petitions to get non-binding citizens-initiated referendums on things that actually matter, such as reducing the number of MPs in Parliament, not reducing the number of firefighters in the New Zealand fire service, not being criminalised for smacking their children, and so on. All to no avail.
Sixthly, because I’m the founder and co-leader of Not A Party and it is incumbent on me to set a good example. 🙂
Seventhly, because how the gang that runs New Zealand chooses to brand the monopoly on violence it claims and maintains over the country’s territorial area is none of my business.
Eighthly, because when all is said and done it’s just a coloured rectangular piece of cloth and so not worth fighting over.

Jake Morphonios discusses breaking news regarding the elite FBI strike force that set up the ambush and murder of LaVoy Finicum. The task force is now under criminal investigation by both the Deschutes Oregon County Sheriff’s Office and the US Justice Department’s Inspector General’s Office.
It is fantastic to see that there are still some Law enforcement departments with integrity enough to perform their duty in a professional manor and test the FBI story of killing a ‘Domestic Terrorist’…. FBI via the evidence…. and what they have found is Damnable towards the FBI.
They used provocation, *Planned* and executed this murder of an upright American Patriot, in such a manor as to fabricate a litany of Lies… and this ongoing investigation could lead to criminal prosecutions of these ‘Special FBI agents’ who not only set the Ambush up in such a way as to make it impossible to stop in time, but clearly lied about their use of firearms.
For People like myself who live outside the US, it is fantastic to see how the roll of ‘Sherrif’ comes to the fore on these situations where the Feds are involved.
And it has been Sheriffs whom have been at the forefront of the defense of the Patriots and Cowboys as they have been trampled underfoot by the FBI and BLM.

We never imagined it would be the blood of our husband and father watering the ‘Tree of Liberty’ that Thomas Jefferson spoke of in years past.
For those new to the LaVoy Finicum Assassination storyvideo of his murder, it began years ago as he practiced daily diligence in the things that develop mind, body and spirit. Such practices enabled him to be the powerful voice America knows him to be.
The more he studied the more he began to recognize how tyranny’s iron fist was intimately in the lives of the American people. This weighed heavily on his soul because he was a man of principle. As a God fearing man, he understood the responsibility and obligation he had to stand in his respective sphere for the cause of liberty.
The Political Assassination of LaVoy Finicum. Revised and Enlarged, Jan 30, 2016
Professor Hall brings his original article, written within hours of the assassination of LaVoy Finicum, into conformity with more recent developments. He refutes those such as Gordon Duff who have misrepresented Finicum’s assassination as “suicide by cop.” The author concludes that the Finicum family are justified in their conclusion that “the FBI chose to escalate the situation to force a confrontation, and violent ending.”
“The vehicle was fired upon before Finicum drove off from the first stop. That was the planned manuver by the FBI to panic him to accelerate out of danger. They left the road wide open for him to leave all of the witnesses at the first stop out of view for what was a planned execution without witnesses at the second stop. LaVoy was first deliberately shot in the lower intestine to cause a reaction that would appear he went for his gun. Of course he reached for the area of excruciating pain. After the final shot murdered him they riddled the truck with bullets and shot flashbangs that’s when Ryan Bundy was struck in the shoulder FROM A BULLET not a toy pellet. To the FBI’s amazement the Bonney and Clyde style shooting victims were not killed. Now they are witnesses to attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and murder in the first degree. Why doesn’t the FBI release pictures of the vehicle? That will prove the criminal acts as will the autopsy of Finicum.”
In 1995 National Party MP Michael Laws sought to introduce his Death with Dignity Bill. The Bill failed, as did NZ First MP Peter Brown’s Death with Dignity Bill in 2003.
More recently, in 2012 Labour MP Maryan Street submitted her ‘End of Life Choice bill’ to the private members ballot. But then Voluntary euthanasia bill withdrawn. Street admitted at the time that “”the move was simply pragmatism, she said, and she “absolutely” planned to put it back in the ballot after the election.”” Unfortunately, due to Labour’s dire defeat at the polls in 2014, Street failed to re-enter Parliament. Moves by Iain Lees-Galloway to adopt Street’s bill were scotched by new Labour leader Andrew Little.
That the House of Representatives investigate fully public attitudes towards the introduction of legislation which would permit medically-assisted dying in the event of a terminal illness or an irreversible condition which makes life unbearable.
The petition asks for a change to the existing law. The closing date for submissions is today, Monday 1 February 2016. You might have missed it.
In October last year, ACT leader David Seymour lodged a private members bill that would legalise voluntary euthanasia, the End of Life Choice Bill. Seymour’s bill may or may not get drawn from the ballot.
So that’s the state of dying in New Zealand. Our deaths remain natural, illegal, or self-inflicted. Or life goes on, sometimes in terminal pain.
Can people simply stop eating and drinking to hasten death?
Yes, stopping eating and drinking will hasten a death, eventually. This is the option many New Zealanders use now. However, it is less than optimal, can take days or weeks, and often requires palliative sedation to relieve negative symptoms of the fasting process.
But what if there’s a legal loophole, wider than a gaping arterial wound, that permits the possibility of a quick, painless, assisted and *legal* means of dying for the terminally ill whose ongoing existence does them more harm than good and who wish to end it all prematurely? I think there might be. Here’s why.
1. Giving blood is legal.
2. Taking blood is legal.
3. Refusing a blood transfusion is legal.
Therefore,
Assisted exsanguination is a legal means of voluntary euthanasia.
This simple means of dying with a little help from your friends and family is subject to some minimal legal constraints that must, of course, be observed.
The Human Tissue Act 2008 covers the legalities of taking blood. Read it and you’ll be displeased but not at all surprised to learn that blood is a “controlled human substance”. But you don’t have to be a “qualified person” to take blood, provided it is not “for therapeutic purposes or for health practitioner education or any kind of research” and the blood is not for sale or transfusion.
Libertarians uphold the right of the individual to his/her own life, liberty—and lifeblood.
I get a couple of local rags, the weekly Kapi-Mana News and the monthly Whitby Newsbrief. Yesterday they both arrived together.
The Kapi-Mana News told me that some 20,000 motorists per year are legally obliged to pay a road toll for driving on Whitford Brown Avenue.
The Whitby Newsbrief told me that NZTA has a “commitment to the local community” that they will “demolish the existing Paremata Bridge and remove the clearways through Mana in conjunction with the opening of Transmission Gully motorway, and following appropriate public process,” according to a Paremata Residents Association Inc. report.
Without government, who will demolish the road bridges?!
This is crazy stuff. Notwithstanding that NZTA isn’t actually committed to the bridge demolition, it’s only committed to considering it as a serious option! Read the full Whitby Newsbrief article here.
Now let’s cut to the chase. What really needs to be demolished immediately is the speed camera installation on Whitford Brown Avenue.
The Whitford Brown Ave speed camera is the country’s busiest, having clocked up more than $1 million in fines in nine months last year.
Figures released by New Zealand Police show that in the first nine months of 2015, 15,273 infringement notices were given to motorists caught travelling faster than 54kmh. That put $1,139,490 into the Government coffers.
The second most lucrative camera in New Zealand was the one in Ngaruanga Gorge. It collected $1,070,000 from 14,200 notices.
After complaints from residents, Kapi-Mana News last February asked police for the number of fines resulting from the Whitford Brown camera, and the highest speed clocked along the road, but we were refused that information.
We were told that “due to a technical recording error, [police] could not provide information relating to specific cameras”.
Also, releasing data on speeds risked “glorifying such behaviour and could promote copycat behaviour… thereby creating a public safety risk”, even though incidents of speeding was regularly in the media”.
The police have now chosen to release the information.
I.e., the police lied initially about being unable to provide the information. But I digress.
I’m a safer than average driver. (I collect 1 speeding ticket per 7 years on the road on average.)
I seldom drive Whitford Brown Avenue but I’ve been pinged once. Whereas, I often drive the Ngauranga Gorge and I’ve never been pinged once.
YMMV but, arguably, the speed camera in the gorge has less to do with extorting revenue from the citizenry and more to do with road safety. Whereas, arguably, the speed camera on Whitford Brown Avenue has next to nothing to do with road safety and everything to do with replenishing the troughers’ coffers by means of an arbitrary road tax.
The speed camera on Whitford Brown Avenue must go.
I fantasise about how to wreck the wretched thing as a service to the community.
A hacksaw at the base would surely fell it, but I might be seen sawing and also I’d risk electrocution.
Some explosives wrapped around the base and detonated remotely would see it go out with a bang, but I’d risk the loss of life and limb if I were to dabble in recipes from the Anarchist Cookbook.
A large truck would come off best in any collision with the installation, even at the legal speed limit of 50 kph. If stolen (from the government), it could be abandoned for a quick getaway. So this would be my preferred option.

My brother Tim and I grew up listening to the likes of Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath. At our family lunch on Christmas Day I reiterated to him that I was still undecided about whether or not to go see Black Sabbath play Dunedin’s Forsyth Barr Stadium on 30 April this year. I mentioned that 30 April is Walpurgisnacht. I also mentioned that it wouldn’t be reasonable just to assume that all three remaining band members will be well enough or even alive four months hence to play the gig, so if I did decide to go ahead ticket insurance would be a must!
I then mentioned that Motorhead’s drummer “Philthy” Phil Taylor had died recently and that Motorhead’s main man Lemmy had only the previous day (Christmas Eve) celebrated his 70th birthday. Rock music’s founders (excepting members of the 27 Club) are mostly still alive but getting well long in tooth and claw.
My brother then morbidly observed that we can expect half of the big rock legends of our youth to die in the next ten years, and the other half to die in the ten years after that. At the rate of about one per week.

I confess. I’m not even a big fan of Motorhead (or Lemmy’s original band, Hawkwind). But I still enjoy listening to them from time to time, of course, what self-respecting metalhead doesn’t?!
I’m not even a fan of Bowie at all. Well, I thought I wasn’t. But now I’ve been given the opportunity to peruse his back catalogue, it’s amply confirmed what I always knew about David Bowie. He’s out of this world talented. So put me down as a small fan of David Bowie. 🙂
