God gave us free will. We’re free to choose right or wrong. Love is a choice! There is no such thing as divine energy holding two people together, that simply is not love. Love would be meaningless if it was not an ACTION of our free will, but pre-programmed to love someone. It just doesn’t make any sense.
We can fall off a bike, fall off a chair, fall in the toilet, but we cannot fall in love. We choose to love. Falling in any context, is not choosing.
This brings me to the purist definition of love you will ever find.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

I found reading this incredibly sad.
You know Fred Phelps. You loathe Fred Phelps. You despise everything he stands for, like his family membersâ infamous protests at soldiersâ funerals with their awful âGod Hates Fagsâ signs. Theyâve been a symbol for many years of the religion-based animosity against the LGBT community â to the point that theyâve been labeled a âhate groupâ and even the most fundamentalist Christian groups denounce his churchâs activities.
Nate Phelps … is Fredâs son and a former member of Westboro Baptist Church. He left the church, and therefore the core of the family, in 1976 when he was 18 years old and has since come out as an atheist, but he still keeps in touch with some of his extended family members, many of whom have also escaped from the church.
Tonight, on Facebook, Nate posted this:
Iâve learned that my father, Fred Phelps, Sr., pastor of the âGod Hates Fagsâ Westboro Baptist Church, was ex-communicated from the âchurchâ back in August of 2013. He is now on the edge of death at Midland Hospice house in Topeka, Kansas.
Iâm not sure how I feel about this. Terribly ironic that his devotion to his god ends this way. Destroyed by the monster he made.
I feel sad for all the hurt heâs caused so many. I feel sad for those who will lose the grandfather and father they loved. And Iâm bitterly angry that my family is blocking the family members who left from seeing him, and saying their good-byes.
It seems that Fred Phelps badly misconstrued the meaning of
If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. (KJV)
As for Phelps and fags … sure, if you truly believe that people are destined for eternal conscious torment in hell, then arguably it is a loving act to warn them as loudly as you can of their impending doom, but I don’t think Fred Phelps really understood or practised the second great commandment. Do you?

I found reading his son Nate’s Facebook post incredibly sad but I find reading the reactions that news of Phelps’ impending demise has engendered even sadder. Here are some typical reactions I’ve seen on (or linked to from) Facebook.

To the people who spew such venom, I’ve simply got to ask. What did Fred Phelps ever do to you? Did he picket your funeral? Did he personally come and pee on your rug? Seventy times seven, peeps. And don’t you think you’re getting a bit overwrought over something that’s essentially a clown act?
Hate breeds hate. Luckily, I don’t loathe Fred Phelps and never did, but so many people do. Phelps bred hate and spread more than a little hate worldwide. And I’m guessing he might even have inspired some of heavy metal band Slayer’s lyrics. đ
No reciprocal hatred from me. Just a wish, in the spirit of yesterday’s St. Patrick’s day, that Phelps’s is “a quick death and an easy one.”

Perhaps life’s greatest lesson is that life itself is a lesson. That was my ex-wife’s sort of New Age spiritual viewpoint, in a nutshell, anyway. She had a firm intuition that we are each thrown into this mortal sphere of existence for a reason or reasons—to learn our spiritual life lesson(s). Of course, being a committed atheist and moral nihilist at the time, I mocked the idea. It’s only now, a repentant worldview and a decade of divorce later, that I’m wondering if she was right, after all. (And kicking myself for not asking the obvious question at the time. If life is a lesson, who sets the curriculum?)
Or, perhaps, life’s a Stanley Milgram experiment.

One day you will be asked to give account.
God as teacher and/or God as experimenter? I don’t think that Tim’s suggesting that life on Earth is, quite literally, an experiment. So I will! (A misbegotten experiment, perhaps? No, I’ll leave it to a detractor to suggest that. Also, I’ll leave it to the apologists for God’s supposed omniscience to explain this.)
How did you do? If life’s a classroom and every day’s a school day, did you study hard? Or did you just fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way? If life’s a Stanley Milgram experiment, did you go with the Word or go with the crowd?
One day you will be asked to give account. If life’s a lab running a Stanley Milgram experiment, you will be judged on how you used your God-given faculty of free will. Did you make the right decisions, and evince moral character and conviction? (The decisions you make throughout your life are all being observed and recorded.) Whereas, if life’s a classroom, you will be judged on how you used your God-given learning ability. Were you a willing, conscientious, hard-working student of life? Did you learn and practise the right things? (Everything you learn and practise goes down on your academic record.)
Classroom or lab? Are we God’s students, or are we his experimental test subjects? I suggest that life’s more lesson than lab, for the simple reason that we do not have a faculty of so-called free will, God-given or otherwise. The concept itself is a nonsense. What we do have is the God-given ability to learn and to change our behaviour. We also have the curriculum and the learning objectives. You’ll find it all in the prescribed text.
(Is Christianity complicated? Please don’t protest that God didn’t make it clear what are the right things to learn and practise. He did. The Bible contains massive redundancy. You know, like how the Ten Commandments are repeated in Deuteronomy, just in case you missed them in Exodus.)
Now, back to the DEMOTIVATOR® at the top.

the children who were best able to delay gratification subsequently did better in school and had fewer behavioral problems than the children who could only resist eating the cookie for a few minutesâand, further, ended up on average with SAT scores that were 210 points higher. As adults, the high-delay children completed college at higher rates than the other children and then went on to earn higher incomes. In contrast, the children who had the most trouble delaying gratification had higher rates of incarceration as adults and were more likely to struggle with drug and alcohol addiction.
How to learn delayed gratification?
Rather than resist the urge to eat the cookie, these children distracted themselves from the urge itself. They played with toys in the room, sang songs to themselves, and looked everywhere but at the cookie. In short, they did everything they could to put the cookie out of their minds.
So, learning to delay gratification is not at all the same thing as learning to resist temptation. The results even suggest that any direct attempt to resist the urge to eat the cookie is worse than futile, it’s counter-productive. And, note, we’re talking about a non-starving child and a cookie. We’re not talking about a methamphetamine addict and a bag of P. And we’re certainly not talking about being offered all that you could ever want in the whole world and having it right now.

Nope. Staring down temptation and simply commanding it to go away is way too hardcore for mere images of God! We can but pray, “Lead us not into temptation” in the first place. Give us this day our daily distraction!

A man known internationally as the âMachine Gun Preacherâ said Friday that federal agents interrupted his charity work in Africa when they raided his Pennsylvania home, business and warehouse Wednesday.
âThey went into a container that was packed and ready to come to the orphanage and totally destroyed it,â Sam Childers, currently in Africa, told WJAC-TV over the phone. âI mean, destroyed it, and whatâs so sad is that it was all childrenâs clothes.â

False preachers of the Law say that a person must keep the Law to be saved…. ie they add *works* as necessary for salvation.
They prove they dont understand the Gospel of grace at all!
They fail to ‘Rightly divide’ the word of truth and so twist the scriptures to say what they want…. by mis-applying the old testament, the Kingdom preaching of Christ, St Peter, St James, etc…. and corrupt the Gospel of grace into Slavery under the Mosaic Law.
They add things like baptism, like keeping the Sabbath etc as necessary for salvation.
These ‘additions tend to enslave those whom they deceive into obeying *The Church hierarchy*….. ensnare them in tithing etc.
This is to deny the Liberating Power of the Cross, which sets us free from the Law.
If all this seems confusing….. Satan Laughs and spreads his wings…. He created this confusion to keep you from the Simple truth.
That Christ has paid the penalty of our sins and that if we simply ask God to save us in Christ’s name…. we will be saved indeed… no ifs…. no But’s….
Christ came to save us Sinners.

Doctor, mohel, and former IDF lieutenant Yosef Glassman finds surprising links between controversial plant and ancient Judaism.

This dictate, found in the Shulchan Aruch (Code of Jewish Law), piqued the curiosity of Boston geriatrician Yosef Glassman when he was reading about Sabbath rituals on a religious quest nearly two decades ago.
The future doctor decided to embark on a project to learn whether cannabis was also used for medicinal purposes in ancient Jewish times. At first, he proceeded hesitantly â the federal ban on marijuana stigmatizes even library research on the drug, he said.
But in recent years, with medical marijuanaâs legalization in several states, Glassman felt more comfortable delving in. What he found was a wealth of references in the Bible and beyond. Marijuana usage, he contends, is an aspect of Jewish law and tradition that had long been buried, and one that deserves âresurfacing and exploration.â
âThere is no question that the plant has a holy source, God himself, and is thus mentioned for several ritualistic purposes,â said Glassman, who is also a mohel and a former Israel Defense Force lieutenant. He lives in Newton, Mass. with his family.
Glassman also found many references to non-medicinal uses of marijuana. âIt is clear that using cannabis for clothing and accessories was very common, according to the Talmud,â he said. It was used for making tallitot and tzitzit, as well as âschachâ (Sukkot roof coverings).
Glassman also found that cannabis fit into the category of kitnyos on Passover, meaning that Ashkenazi Jews were prohibited from using it on the holiday. âOne thus might assume that it was also consumed, perhaps as food, during the remainder of the year,â he said, noting that hemp seeds are a non-intoxicating form of protein.
Glassman first presented his findings in late October during grand rounds â a medical teaching session â at the New England Sinai Hospital in Stoughton, Mass., where he is a physician. He has since gone on to give the same lecture to lay and medical professional audiences. âThe goal is to educate practitioners on the rich cultural history behind the use of cannabis as a medicine, explain its mechanism of action, and dispel myths about its safety profile,â he said at one such presentation open to the public in Brookline, Mass. in November.
He explained that he had received no commercial support for his research, that no exhibitors were present, and sorry, but there were no free samples. âNot even in those brownies in the back?â joked one audience member.
In the talk, Glassman described finding several biblical references to the herb that include Book of Numbers 17:12-13, where Aaron the High Priest, âno pun intended,â probably burned marijuana as an incense offering âduring a time of turmoil.â Other passages include Godâs instructions to Moses to âtake for yourself herbs bâsamimâ â herbs of medicinal quality â and instructions in Exodus to âtake spices of the finest sort, pure myrrh, five hundred shekels, fragrant cinnamon, and âkeneh bosem,ââ which literally means âsweet cane,â but possibly refers to cannabis, said Glassman. âKeneh bosemâ is also mentioned in the Song of Songs 4:14, Isaiah 43:24, Jeremiah 6:20 and Ezekiel 27:19. Another pronunciation is the Aramaic âkene busma,â which, perhaps unsurprisingly, is also the name of a modern reggae musician.
Glassmanâs research revealed that cannabis may have been used as an anesthetic during childbirth in ancient Israel; he described an archaeological discovery of hashish in the stomach of the 1,623-year-old remains of a 14-year-old girl in Beit Shemesh. Maimonides was also an advocate of using cannabis oil for ailments such as colds and ear problems. âThere are complex laws of plant mixing and hybridizing from the Talmud, which Maimonides comments on,â said Glassman. âCannabis specifically was taken especially seriously in terms of mixing ⌠and could, in fact, incur the death penalty. This shows me that apparently, cannabis was treated quite seriously.â
Ancient Jews werenât the only people to use cannabis medicinally, of course. In his lecture, Glassman noted that cannabis has been used in Chinese medicine, as one of the 50 fundamental herbs, for 4,700 years; ancient Egyptians used it in suppositories and for eye pain; and Greeks made wine steeped with cannabis and used it for inflammation and ear problems.

Hero John Shear 92.

At 92, John Shear can still pump out 30 pushups every day at the gym. But the man is hailed as a hero not for his unlikely strength but for his brave heart.
Shear has worked as a guard at the Santa Anita Park racetrack in California for 51 years.
He was keeping his normal watch two years ago, holding a rope across one of the gaps in the paddock fence as racing fans of all ages gathered to watch the horses moments before they took to the track.
âThen I heard someone shout out there was a loose horse,â Shear said.
He shouted to everyone to clear the way.
âI went to one side and when I looked down, there was a little girl standing there,â he recalled.
That little girl was Michael Keyâs daughter, 5-year-old Roxy Key. Without thinking twice, Shear jumped in front of Roxy, shielding her from the horse that was barreling toward them.
âBefore I could even think to even move, here comes Mr. Shear,â said Michael Key, remembering that fateful day.
The defining moment of a man’s character. John does not hesitate to put himself in between the charging horse and the little girl… The Child of complete strangers.
âI knew I was going to get hit,â Shear said. âI thought there was a possibility I was going to die but you cannot stop and think should I or shouldnât I. There is a five-year-old girl. Iâm 90-years-old. I have had a life. She hasnât had a life. You got to save that life.â
The horse ran full speed into the pair, knocking both Shear and Roxy to the ground.
âShe got up and I was shaking. I was in shock,â Michael Key said. âAnd sheâs like, âIâm fine, papa, Iâm fine,â and then she looked over and saw Mr. Shear on the ground and there was blood hemorrhaging and she lost it, she just lost it.â
Shear remembers that moment. âI heard her say when her dad asked her if she was fine she said, âYes dad, Iâm all right.â I felt better that she was safe.â
