In my opinion Ellie Goulding typifies the BZP experience.
Sight, sound, and stamina are enhanced.
Everything is shiney.
Alcohol consumption is minimised.
Many friends have raved on about how great an experience they had going to concerts, etc when I brought along my plastic jar of ‘The Good stuff’.
Back in those happy times this was completely legal.
Of course the Wowzers could not tollerate that!

The following is a pamphlet I wrote back in 2007-2008 hoping to rally public support to keep BZP legal in New Zealand, It is preceeded by a letter I also wrote at the time.
Libertarians were unsuccessful in halting the Ban…no surprise, considering the question was being ‘investigated’by the Draconian Nanny Statist and Cold war socialist Jim Anderton.
This was at the height of Nanny State Power… under the Labour Clark/ Wilson/ Yates Regime.

I put this up on our blog today because I have just recently made contact with a person whom was a major player in the new industry of legal highs in New Zealand. He was a very impressive personality in that he was able to argue the merrits of his business, and counter many of the prohibitionists claims that his products were unsafe.
I am keen to discuss this subject with such a knowledgable insider.
I also post it for posterity’s sake, as a testimony to some more of my exploits as a libertarian activist.
It represents an ongoing battle against the Drug war which is not only tyrannical, but serves Criminal interests, and works against healthier legal alternatives to alcohol and many illicit substances.
Many of the claims I make in this pamphlet have proven to be true.
It’s rationale is applicable to exposing the evils of the War on drugs in general, thus it is still very relevant, and the Re-legalisation of BZP and Cannabis are still matters of unsettled and ongoing injustice.

I think my piece suited the Pamphlet format better than this Blogpost… Oh well.

How happy it is to be able to purchase party pills over the counter, knowing the profit is not going to criminal organisations but helping honest businessmen and there families to prosper.
No need to call the police!
No problem!
This is what it would be like if cannabis was legalised as well!
Since adding party pills to my shopping list I have noticed a reduction in my consumption of alcohol.
It is easy to regulate the level of enjoyment, one for a nice cruise, two for a stag night, etc
The buzz can be as good as any joint, which makes a mockery of the prohibition of Cannabis!
The Anti-Fun brigade fears that New Zealanders will see the benefits of having a legal recreational drug trade and so urgently seek to raise a big enough stink to make criminals of those peacefully engaged in such activities.
Little wonder why young people show no regard for accepted social norms or the Political Correct rules and regulations of Nanny State!
They are phoney! They are oppressive! They suck!
They are the obsessive delusions of twisted little busy bodies!
Get Off My Cloud and stop perverting the law!

The Spin-doctors already have their speeches ready …of wheels flying off their axels and drug crazed terror at our door, ZERO TOLERANCE, Send in Red Squad!
Waiting for an enquiry report on the issue was merely a formality.
Why waste time with the truth when pushing one’s own barrow is much more fun and politically acceptable to the sheeple?

The availability of legal Party pills (BZP) has made a very interesting challenge against drug prohibition in general, and it is for this reason alone not because of any great evil caused by BZP that the Prohibitionists are hell bent on banning them irrespective of right reason and justice.
They are relying on their old tactics of playing on the fears and ignorance of conservative New Zealanders.
To call New Zealand a liberal nation in the light of such thing’s as the Smoking ban is to deny the fact we Kiwi’s are but hen pecked children tied fast to the apron strings of Nanny State. It’s time we all grew up and said good bye to that old hag!
Enough is enough!

Al Capone and Mr Asia will love to see Party pills banned.
That will mean more profits coming their way in sales of their illicit products like P, E, or H. Likewise many Breweries and Distilleries (A dealers) would be expecting a boon as young people are forced to drink alcohol as their only legal recreational drug. Our state is directly responsible for this monopoly!
The ban will increase the potential for huffing solvents, LPG etc.
BZP will become another potentially exploitable product for criminal organisations and another motive for armed robbery, and murder as prices soar.
Because BZP is pleasurable, demand will always be there.
Banning it will not change this, just as drug tests don’t stop drug problems in prisons or worksites.
(Only a personal work ethic can stop drug use at work, and only a growing personal preference to be drug free will reduce demand for alcohol and drugs in general)
Use of BZP will continue via the black market, yet product safety and quality will be reduced as a consequence of not being able to manufacture it in a legitimate fashion.
Children will become exposed to both the Underworld and to a Draconian police force.
Victims of State oppression have their sense of justice seriously undermined creating a mindset for a life of anti-social behaviour.
These are the very real adverse affects to be expected to result from the ban… an increase in injustice, a perversion of police duties, and a reduction of social order and further entrenchment of our nations alcoholism.
The cotton wool of Nanny state becomes more suffocating and the ethics of self responsibility takes another hit!

It is time NZ society had a rethink about how recreational drugs are controlled and managed. It is time they stopped bigots like Jim Anderton’s use of perverse law to persecute and criminalize our young adults and put them on the wrong side of the law. This is to strip our children of their rights and expose them to tyranny.
Jim’s draconian ‘cures’ only worsens the diseases!
Police must be retrained to distinguish and police real crimes whilst protecting the liberty of individuals peacefully pursuing their own happiness, what ever, however they choose to spend their time.
Jim Anderton’s Ban will further stretch police resources.

Education needs to be severed from political interference that currently promotes dictatorship instead of self reliance.

It is not the job of the Government or the Police force to make up for the deficiencies in Self-moral responsibility that flow from generations of ignorance and lack of parental responsibility.
Such lesions not imbibed at home means a painful learning curve out in the big wide world…yet these lessons must be learned. They cannot be faked. The level of freedom and civilisation in any society is proportional to the collective sum of the moral codes of it’s individual members including their level of political enlightenment.
This is fundamental of Human Co-existence. As individuals we are sovereign over our own bodies and must function via our own inner compass as individuals, not as a herd via pontifications from a bully with a big stick.
Jim Anderton’s proposals to ban BZP destroys these vital ethics by making the state into a tyranny and a mockery of law and order.
In Jim Anderton’s political philosophy we are merely sheep to be herded at his command…and of course we are expected to adore him as ‘the good shepherd”(sic)
Personally I hold nothing but contempt for such a simpleton tyrant!
No apparent gain resultant from unjust powers can ever justify their wickedness even if it is only a small fringe minority who suffer!

Forget Jim’s Ban!
How ought we deal with the current levels of social disorder in regards to alcohol?
How ought we deal with BZP and recreational drugs in general?
What we do with our own bodies is up to us by right!
Helen Clark does not own your body, you do and because the health of your body is your concern, you ought to take good care of it and understand that your choices may have either good or evil effects upon one of your most precious possessions…your own body!
Thus it is that whether we are contemplating skydiving or cigarette smoking, the same ethic of free choice and self-responsibility apply.

Libertarian philosophy is capable of correcting the social mindset of this generation, literally reforming criminals and inspiring self-esteem founded upon self responsibility.
It is this philosophy of rights that must underpin the ethics of adults who use recreational drugs, weather Alcohol…BZP….or Rota power.
People with these ethics clearly established in their heart so as to be a part of their self esteem, while they may swear and become bad mannered, they don’t become violent, even when they have had too much to drink because such behaviour has become abhorrent, and appears barbarous to their inner being. (Respect thy neighbour)
It is this kind of inner being that is vital to civil society i.e. moral awareness.
Libertarianism compliments and embodies universally accepted ethical concepts and creates the liberty for individual personal beliefs to function as the real guides to life and Higher Laws rather than mere human convention backed up by brute force e.g. I am a Christian Libertarian …you may be a Hindu or Islamic one, etc.

We must also learn that all Citizen’s have the very real right to self defence and to bare the means of self defence and so if a drunken hoon is shot while trying to rob a Gas station, Liquor store or Dairy, that is a lesion in justice for everyone especially any would-be bandits.
The Libertaian party is a strong advocate of personal, home, business defence and are fighting for these rights to be Constitutionally protected ending the current denial and criminalisations of the status quo.

The Libertarianz party say the state stranglehold over our health system must be abolished. Thousands on waiting lists are being dropped.
State Healthcare is a giant scam and a complete failure!
The health system overload is constantly used as vindication for suppression of our rights and liberties, re smoking, drinking, fatty foods etc.
By removing the state from health we remove this source of tyranny and lay our healthcare to the proper door…our own!
Smokers will probably have to pay higher heath insurance (yet Smoke Taxes would be abolished so they probably will be able to afford the extra costs!)
It’s their life…It’s their choice.

Jim BANderton.
The travesty of his ‘due process and the facade of ‘Justice being seen to be done’… like a Nazi’s trial against ‘enemies of the state’… the ban of BZP was a forgone conclusion from the moment he was appointed to lead the public inquiry.

Jim Anderton’s ban is corrupt, anti freedom, anti private property, anti free trade, and must be defeated.
Just as the Farmers have successfully protested against dog tagging, so must shop keepers and party patrons alike become activists in the Libertarian attempt to chop Jim Anderton and his ‘fun police’ down to size!
Let’s stop his meddling!
And in the long term, lets fight for Constitutional chains to bind government from attempting such violations of our right and liberties in the future!

Important Note: Any youth reading this pamphlet needs to understand that their behaviour and that of their friends has a lot to do with the outcome of this issue and others such as the drinking age.
Because we live under a government that wields unrestricted powers young people are in constant danger of being stripped of their rights under the pretext that they are not adult enough to govern themselves. Breaking bottles, Graffiti, etc is for losers and I have no problem with the Police busting such crimes!
Youth need to snap out of their self defeating childishness, and become politically aware, and self responsible. Stop mimicking Idiots of the last generation and start becoming adults of real character in your own right.
You can still have fun and be treated as Adults!

The idea of the ‘Mandate of the majority’ in determining what ought to be Law, or how a country ought to be governed is a Pagan/ Greek idea.
It is a pseudo-morality which opposes itself to Christian Ideals of Justice.
Why then do so many Christians clamor for more democracy…less principle/ rule of Law?
Why is it that the socialists have been able to substitute the Idea of Majority Rule as being ‘the rule of law’ when it is no such thing?
Democratic whim is no more a protection of the rights of individuals than the whim of a dictator.
The Laws generated thereby are absolutely Arbitrary!
Why is this truth not taught in ours schools?

They dont teach this because the state does not want the people to slap Constitutional restraints on their power or limit their spheres of operation/ intervention.
Labour party Hench woman and Waikato University Propaganda Chief Margaret Wilson opposed the institution of a Constitution which restrained the powers of parliament. Ie she opposed the rule of Law, and desired the continuation of Totalitarian socialism.

She praised Social arbitrary law and mob rule… calling the Status quo… “Our wonderfully Fluid system…” !!!!

Remember that she was part of the Labour government who abolished Kiwi’s rights to appeal to Privy Council in England, and established the New Zealand Supreme Court.
This was a socialist Coup!

As one of New Zealand’s highest Lawyers/Legislators (Attorney General), it was in her parties vested interest to Bamboozle the people of New Zealand to keep her Party free to implement their Nanny state Agenda upon us.

These were dark days for unpopular minorities… Party pill/ NOS bans, Anti-smoking legislations etc. Massive handouts to Racist radicals, Anti smack legislation, etc.
By comparison John Keys inept governance looks enlightened!
We don’t see anywhere near as much Nanny state legislation being generated.
He still suxs badly, yet I will give him Credit for that…

That many people will look at the list of oppressive socialist laws and think they were all good ideas …. That Nanny State is great just goes to show that had they lived in Germany in the 1930’s, they would have been raising the One armed salute to the Democratically elected Socialist Tyrant Adolf Hitler.
He was all about ‘State Health’, ‘State Education’, ‘Nationalism’, etc.
This is why is is all too common to hear sheeple exclaim… “Hitler was a genius and had a lot of great Ideas…”.

Sickening!

That Unchecked Social Democracy has bankrupted every Nation in Western Civilisation makes little difference to the Vested interests, dependent State Tit suckers whom now realise they have sucked the life blood out of their neighbors! They Clamour against state cost cutting… as if you can get more labour out of Dead slaves!
The Socialist politicians themselves refuse to admit they have ruined their Nations.
They make ridiculous statements “Austerity will cause a depression” when the truth is their largess has already Bankrupted us and that every year they continued their charade simply made things much worse!
We stagger beneath Massive Debts and Taxes!
Look at Cyprus today!
Frozen banks, and the prospect of looting the peoples savings!
It is difficult for me to feel sorry for them as the one thing that may be said about Democracy is that the Majority of people get the Government they deserve.
Ie In every Western Nation the resident sheeple have ignored the ‘Doom saying Libertarians preaching “The End is Nigh!” from their Soapboxes.
The greedy Sheeple have allowed their governments to lead them to destruction.

Why a new Constitution for New Zealand must protect the Individual from Mobocracy.

Because I have failed in the attempt to organise an association of ‘Heavy hitting’ Libertarian minds to directly challenge the governments appointed Committee which is currently running a Mickey Mouse commission looking to entrench Waitangi Racism and Socialist Democratic tyranny, I am attempting to put together a ‘condensed’ submission advocating the institution of a New constitution embodying Libertarian principles for New Zealand to be submitted to Muriel Newman’s the independent Constitutional review panel.

This panel is primarily concerned with insuring any new Constitution guarantees Racial equality before the Law, and does not entrench the current Apartheid doctrines and institutions of Radical Indigenous racism and treaty separatism.
This independent Panel is to be highly praised for this work.
It is absolutely essential that the Government be prevented from establishing an Apartheid constitution, yet I fear the scope of this Independent lobby is not broad enough to challenge the many other injustices and usurpations perpetrated against the people of New Zealand in the name of ‘Social Democracy’ which is the prevailing ideology of 99% of MPs and their parties whom populate our parliament.

The difficulty for me is not only that I despair having to sit out and watch everything unfold from the sideline as a spectator rather than a participant in this process.
I despair of being able to do justice to this ‘Mother of all Political Institutions’ in a brief submission.

One of the most important jobs of a Constitution is to protect the Rights and liberties of Minorities and individuals from Mob Rule.
Living in an age in which Atheist Materialism and Moral relativism dominate the thinking in academic circles it is difficult to speak of ‘Higher Law’… Moral absolutes which trump the mere whims or Legislators in large numbers.
It is difficult to get support for Ideals which set limits to the pseudo-moral justification of Legislation founded upon the mandate of the majority.
In Today’s world I cannot make appeals to Individual rights as being inalienable because they are ‘God given’… which was in times past a perfectly acceptable and rational position to take for the simple reason that so many intellectuals have tragically abandoned belief in God.
Thus I must make appeals to other arguments, in secular terms which embody arguments which such mentalities will not dismiss because of personal bias against theistic Ideas.
And most essentially these arguments must be powerful enough to expose the evil delusion that Humanitarian sentiments can justify tyrannical and oppressive political means.

The Little video below was posted on Face book by a friend (Hat tip Mark Casey) and I share it with you here because it does a very good Job or presenting the distinction between real charity and Socialism/ forced welfare…. and the travesty of that pseudo-moral justification… ‘the democratic mandate of the Majority’…
In so doing this video embodies one of the important attributes my submission to the Independent Panel must encompass.

Homebrew. The horror!

The most vile homebrew I ever drank was decades ago when I was a student in Dunedin. My flatmates brewed up a batch which they aptly named “Ralph”. I’m pretty sure I did just that, but not before (so it is alleged) I danced … to Marillion!

Dirty deeds, Dundas Street. Ah, those were the days. 🙂

Some homebrew I’ve drunk in more recent years rivals all but the best commercial craft beers.

All hail FLAWHB! 🙂

Homebrewed danger causes questions

Residents’ Associations say the dangers of homebrew, highlighted by a recent death, are that you don’t know the alcohol content of the drinks and say the drinking culture of pre-loading before events is a big issue that needs to be addressed.

This is the first time I remember that the purported dangers of homebrew have been sensationalised in the media, but I’m sure it won’t be the last.

This is also a vivid illustration of the Law of Unintended Consequences. The only reason that homebrew beer is gaining popularity is because beer in supermarkets is being priced out of affordability by the wowsers in government. What on earth did they think would happen when beer drinkers are being asked to fork out $20 for a six-pack of Macs or Monteiths?

Pre-loading is an established custom. Who can afford to get drunk on $7 handles of Tui? Who would even want to?

The Pauatahanui Residents Association Chairperson says the danger in homebrew is that you don’t what you are drinking.

“You don’t know if they have mixed methanol into it,” says Alan Gray.

What you mean ‘they’, white man?

Oh, you’re not talking about my flatmates. You’re talking about the bootleggers in the gang house down the road. Do they collect excise tax? No. Do they ask for ID from anyone who looks under the age of 35? No.

The toxic substance, which is sometimes added to drinks to make them more alcoholic, has killed many people overseas he says.

We’re a bit behind India and the rest of the world, but the incentives to produce bootleg liquor locally grow ever greater by the day.

It is not known if methanol is a factor in the death of a teenage student who died after drinking homebrewed spirits in Auckland recently.

No, but let’s mention it anyway, to scare the crap out of the usual hand-wringers who are now primed to cry out, “The government should do something!”

Mr Gray says it is lifestyle choice for those who choose to consume homebrew and he does not know how Police could enforce any laws or regulations around it.

Paremata Residents’ Association Chairperson Terry Knight says there is no way to protect people from themselves, as “there are plenty of idiots out there”.

At least the President of my Residents’ Association is sane. You can’t legislate away stupidity.

Normandale Residents’ Association President Peter Matcham agrees there is a drinking culture which is the root of the problem.

“They want to get smashed out of their heads, whether it is by drinking home brew or RTDs,” he says.

“They think it is cool.”

Getting totally hammered is cool at weddings. 🙂

He says there is no easy answers as how to curb the issues around young people and their drinking habits, but suggests that being drunk in a public space should become an offence.

What a fascist. It’s already an offence to be drunk and disorderly.

An Auckland teenager, Tyson Devon, 18, was drinking homebrewed spirits with friends in Rosehill, South Auckland, on Saturday afternoon when he died.

Tyson had passed out after ‘pre-loading’ on homebrew in anticipation for the birthday party he was suppose to be attending later that day.

RIP Tyson Devon.

A Socially conscientious face book friend asked me …. “just curious, what is your view on schooling? do you think it is something that should be the states responsibility to provide or the parents responsibility to provide/find an appropriate organization to provide it for them? just curious as to what you thought :)”

As this is a very important topic, I think it is appropriate to post my response here for discussion.
It is a brief overview of my position as a Kiwi Libertarian who has had a guts full of the absolute BS that goes for education in this country…

My reply…
This is a subject of the highest importance.

The reality is that when you clearly define what are the proper duties of Government, things like Education and Health fall outside the proper domain of political coercion and governmental responsibility.

In fact it is very dangerous to grant politicians power and control over such things.
Before the advent of ‘State education’ schooling was fast growing as a successful private institution, and when the Socialists wanted to nationalize schooling, enlightened minds rightly recoiled at this knowing the State would inevitably use the education system to indoctrinate the population with it’s own political agenda… and this is exactly what has happened. eg All the false propaganda about European colonization of New Zealand, and the treaty as being a partnership etc.
Another example is all the ‘Green / climate change propaganda’ creating a generation of sheeple whom will allow the government to tyrannize over their lives and the economy under the guise of ‘Caring for dolphins, etc’.

Intellectual Giant. The Self-educated Individualist/ Libertarian Herbert Spencer.
He warned of the inevitable evils which would follow in the wake of the State Nationalisation of education… and time has absolutely vindicated his prophesies!
His ‘The Man vs the State’ is a must read.

The ‘Indoctrination system’ has created generations of Sheeple who today think it’s the states job to ‘mother’/ nanny everyone and that all life’s problems have political solutions… and thus ought to be regulated.
There is a constant bleating about ‘too much liberty… not enough State control’.

Plus because the state monopoly virtually eliminates the virtues of ‘Free-market’ forces/ competition the system tends to stagnate, whereas the dymanics of free-market competition always seeks to improve the value it supplies to its consumers so as to increase its market share.
Thus the free-market in Education would produce the highest value for the lowest cost.
Conversely it was recently calculated that our State system sucks $9 out of every $10 into it’s bureaucracy with only $1 going on to actually educating our kids.
Thus there is potential for huge cost savings to the NZ public whom are still under the delusion that education is ‘free’ in this country when in fact they pay exorbitant amounts via taxation.

Furthermore there is an entrenched ‘Soviet’ unionized mentality within the Collectivized Teaching fraternity who seek to aviod the ‘horrors’ of Free market quality controls, and instead maintain themselves as a state bureaucracy…. resisting reform.
The prevailing political ideology of teachers in this country are die hard advocates of totalitarian control of everything.
Then you have the Ministry of Education playing God, deciding what will be taught to you kids,… what values are taught robbing parents to their rights to choose what they believe is in the best interest of the children.

The whole business stinks to high heaven, yet the sheeple have been so successfully indoctrinated to believe that ‘our system is wonderful, and that privatization will mean poor kids will miss out’ that the very notion of removing the state from education is absolutely unconscionable.

The Proper duty of government is strictly limited to upholding the Natural rights and liberties of the individual, not implementing socialist agendas… not social engineering.
Yet because this limited sphere of operation severely restricts political power, and maximizes self responsibility, the power tripping politicians will always attempt to overstep the bounds of legitimate political intervention, using emotive excuses to justify their usurpations, and the sheeple who don’t like self responsibility will vote for politicians who offer to ‘mummy’ them… and tax others to pay for things which they themselves ought to pay.
Socialism is one great big tit sucking scam where people are under the delusion that they are getting something for nothing.

The reality is Socialism is chronically ‘top heavy’, shuns progressive innovation and is bankrupt!
Yet how are enlightened self educated folk like myself supposed to get the truth across to the masses in the face of the multi Billion dollar multi headed hydra of State Indoctrination and media… whom constantly preach that freedom is bad and state power is good?
We are said to be radicals whom ought to be simply ignored.

Never underestimate the power of Idiots in large numbers!

The NZ Herald ran a story today about Union activism, lobbying for the raising of the minimum wage… under the emotive term ‘Living Wage’.
It was with great relief that I read further that John Key rejected the notion.
It currently sits at $13.50.

Unions seek to compel employers to raise their minimum wage to between $18.00 to $20.00 an hour, under the pretext that this rate will mean “families can realistically live”.

As I was reading about this in the Smoko room at work, I could not help but mutter how insane I thought this Idea is and that it would only serve to hurt New Zealand, esp those this wage was supposed to help.

I was promptly challenged, and so I began to explain why this was both a stupid Idea and why it would make things worse for everyone.

I explained that $18.00 dollars an hour may indeed be enough to get by on…today… under the present cost of living, yet the very introduction of this ‘artificial’ wage increase would immediately cause a jump in living expenses… and thus the raise would only serve to inflate costs, and $18.00 would then not buy the same amount of goods and services as it does today… before the compulsory rise.
Ie it is a self defeating gesture.

It would cause the cost of living to rise for everyone, esp in regards to things like Bread, Bakery food, Petrol, etc… things which Kiwis buy from other Kiwis, rather than from overseas. Conversely it will hand a greater competitive advantage to imported Goods comparative to New Zealand produce. Imports will still be effected, yet not to the same degree as Kiwi made… and this disadvantage puts New Zealand business under greater strain.
Some businesses simply will not remain viable because the wage rise makes their products too expensive, and some will simply shut down their operations, others will move offshore to countries where they can get less expensive labour, and others will bring in Automation, because they can justify the expense in light of the New Wage laws.
In all these scenarios It will be bad news for the lower wage earners.
All these Evils will have resulted because of ridiculous Social engineering
The Unions and complicit Social democrats will have successfully cost workers their jobs proving that this type of Economic stupidity will surely hurt the very people this socialist compulsion was supposed to help!

It keeps getting worse because Unemployment will jump and so will numbers on the unemployment benefit (ramping up the costs to taxpayers)… and what is even worse is that because the costs of living have been artificially forced upwards… the buying power of welfare benefits will have shrunk too!

Then we will nodoubt hear Union cries to raise welfare benefits to ‘living proportions’, throwing even greater burdens on the workers… ie the taxpayers!

Some may say that $18-20/hour might encourage some people off welfare, yet where would these jobs come from?
You have in reality made it much harder to employ them!

And all this misery is a typical result of Government Regulation and interference in the market place and economy of the country!
The Socialist Unionists will not blink from blaming all this extra pain and chaos upon the greed of the capitalists!
That’s how this Malevolent virus of the mind maintains itself in it’s hosts.
Socialism maintains a Class warfare, always blaming the greed of the other side.
The truth is we don’t have a capitalist system, which is ‘Laissez Faire’… ‘Hands off’ Free market economics.
We have a Socialist regulated/ hands on economy!
So quit with the Rubbish that ‘Capitalism doesn’t work’.
It’s Socialism which is failing, and driving our country into debt and destitution!

I have much better solution than compulsory wage rises.
It would indeed help the lower wage earners.

I suggest we get rid of income Tax upon the first $10- 15 000 dollars (per annum) earned by everyone!
This would give the poor a real increase in wages without adding costs to employers!
This would mean the costs of production would not increase, and the cost of living would not be artificially increased, nor would thousands be forced onto the Dole!

We don’t have to imagine why the socialist Unionists and Politicians have not put this suggestion on the table!
They want more taxes, not less! ( Think about how heavily unionized all the State employees are in Health , education, etc, etc)

I don’t have space here to talk about the fact that in reality reducing Tax rates can result in greater tax revenues for the government due to growth in the economy.
Nor will I go into the fact that if politicians agreed to lower taxes to win votes, they would probably borrow money at a faster rate rather than cut government spending. which is another shyster evil which ought to be illegal.
Nor will I go into the explanation that in the real world it is the Law of supply and demand which sets wage rates, not Dictators.

I must leave these subjects for a later date.
I t is enough for me to say that only the most ridiculously naive morons think economics can be ‘doctored’ so as to improve living standards by passing such farcical laws.

For Some time I have also been meaning to write a blog post upon what is going on in respect to the Highest wage/ salary earners… the CEOs etc… the Largess, and how this too is an aberration…an evil which is having very serious detrimental effects upon our society, yet it will have to wait.
It is enough to say that this largess actually encourages socialists to pass absurd yet draconian laws… just like this one…the living wage… believing they can wrestle money away from the Top wage earners and hand it to the lowest ones… and that no ill effects will result.
They are complete Morons.

Another delusion is the calculated cost of implementing this ‘Living wage policy’ as it fails to take into account the disgruntled workers who have taken the trouble to up-skill themselves yet find themselves earning little more than the those people with virtually no skills at all!
Human nature dictates that these workers will strike and demand higher wages too.
and thus there will be multiple unforeseen and un-calculated costs which will have ruinous consequences…. esp for taxpayers, rents,and ratepayers… and the Costs of essentials

Some of my best friends are socialists. One friend in particular often has good arguments in favour of government interventions in a variety of flavours. Here’s one of them, in response to this article in the NZ Herald on rising power prices.

Its no surprise that electricity prices in NZ have doubled in real terms (compared with overseas) in the last 30 years (as per the article in your link).

Interesting to look at the wage bill, interest bill and profit (and where the profit went) for the old system and compare with the new.

And also look at the nature of the generation and distribution assets , old and new i.e. how much of todays electricity as supplied by dams and plants that were there 30 years ago.

I have no doubt the the old government owned system was:-

Simpler
Cheaper
More reliable

Also with the old system
little marketing and advertising costs
reduced management costs
greatly benefitted from orders of magnitude
reduced compliance costs (annual reports. legal costs etc)
profits went to the government to offset taxes
Central planning was done to benefit NZ – not to manipulate the system to the benefit of those receiving bonuses (smartest people in the room syndrome)

Cutting the system up into competing entities means that in many cases where there used to be one job there are now about 6. Plus each of the new entities now has its own marketing department. I project managed the multi-million dollar computer that is required to calculate the billing between generators and retailers. Such complexity was unnecessary in the old system. And someone has to pay for all those people treading the streets trying to persuade households to switch from one retailer to another.

In the old system the best brains were used on engineering calculations – now they are used on how best to manipulate for profit.

It all wouldn’t be quite so bad if households could buy electricity at wholesale rates plus a margin and use smart meters to understand and adapt to the risks – but that particular vision still seems unreachable.

Anyway that’s my (admittedly one sided) rant.

My friend also admits it “was written very very quickly as an angry outburst. No real thought gone into it. It is filled with sentences and phrases that could be much better as well holes in the logic etc. and totally lacking in references or hard facts.”

Way too modest!

I think it deserves a response. Any takers?

91% of rapes in the US occur against woman, and they occur with greater frequency in States with heavy gun restrictions.

The Stats for Sexual assault prosecutions in New Zealand for the year of 2008 was 1312!
The Stats for Male assaults Woman in the same year was 4762!

This is happening in a Nation with heavy gun Laws, and bans firearms, esp hand guns for the purposes of self defense.

Don’t kid yourself that Gun controls protect woman.
Woman are Easy pickings in this country.
They are disempowered by Draconian laws and left exposed to predation by violent male offenders.
Don’t kid yourself that Gun control advocates care about the safety of woman more than those whom advocate Gun rights!
The reality is Gun controls greatly benefit violent criminals, not Law abiding citizens.
Mass killings are not demonstrative of lax Gun laws, but Gun restrictions.
They occur in places where guns are banned, and are perpetrated against groups of unarmed people.
The few Crazy people whom attempt mass murder in places where Gun rights are strongest are quickly halted in their tacks by individuals who carry the means of defending themselves.

Those are the facts.
And they contradict the poor logic, fanaticism, and Machiavellian opportunism of Gun control advocates whom use such atrocities as school shootings to lobby to remove against the rights to bear arms.

For at least Six Months New Zealanders have been subjected to a Propaganda campaign designed to turn them against a reform which will save them Time, and Money, and will reduce their exposure to Petty tyrants.
I am referring to the Ad campaign by the MTA fronted by Popular Driving Champion Greg Murphy designed to make the government maintain the Status quo in Warrant of Fitness legislation, which is comming up for reveiw.

This Campaign is an excellent/ Blatant example of how vested interests whom profit from heavy handed regulations and Legislations work within a democracy to prevent Reforms.
Having a Popular Celebrity in your top pocket helps immensely, and is very typical of this sort of Terrorism.

Just what are these reforms and how much money are we talking about being save by New Zealanders?
“Associate Transport Minister Simon Bridges yesterday announced that cars registered after January 1 that year will need just annual checks, and new cars – after undergoing initial inspections – will not require checks for three years.
He said the changes would benefit motorists by $159 million a year. At least $1.8 billion over 30 years would be saved in inspection, compliance, justice and enforcement costs.”

And the Lions share of those millions go straight into the pockets of members of the MTA Lobby!
As a fan of Greg Murphy, his support for this Cronyism is very disappointing.

The MTA could not deny this When confronted…

MTA spokesman Ian Stronach said it was undeniable that the government’s proposals would impact its revenue, but insisted its interest was safety.

And all this talk about the old age of our fleet is bullshit because the reforms dont effect the older vehicles!
His denial that he is not motivated by self interest is complete lies.
Murphy has a vested interest to front the MTA campaign to insure their continued financial support of his Career.
When you listen to the Bull shit he employs, it all about spooking the sheeple… with Emotive lies, and ridiculous assumptions. Not a scrap of evidence saying 7 more lives per year will be lost, the government has estimated 1.4 .

I believe contrary to these pessimistic guesses that there is every chance that the death toll will decrease because of greater impetus on self reliance and less dependence upon ‘the system’.
The dynamics of Liberty are so misunderstood.
Freedom ought not to be feared.

And there is plenty of evidence to support the proposition that reform will not be at the expense of lives!
A spokesman from the AA Mark Stockdale was reported in the NZ Herald Here saying…
“… government estimates that an annual WoF for all vehicles made after January 1, 2000, could boost deaths by 1.4 a year would be offset by a rise in police enforcement of unsafe and unwarranted vehicles, and increased education to help motorists keep their vehicles safe.
Most cars in New Zealand were tested every 6000km compared with every 19,000km in Britain or 30,000km in Germany.
“Yet when it comes to crash causation, only 2.5 per cent of crashes involved mechanical defects [and 0.4 per cent where it is the sole cause]. That’s the same as those countries with lesser frequencies.
“This suggests that not only is there no correlation between test frequency and mechanical safety, but that New Zealand’s higher road death rate is attributable to other factors.”
Yet The MTA is not the only vested interest keen to thwart Legislative reforms.

In another place he says of the MTA Lobby…
“could be seen as ”scare mongering” and was influenced by the MTA’s commercial interests.
MTA’s members include hundreds of garages which offer WOF checks, while the organization also owns Vehicle Testing New Zealand, the country’s largest WOF provider.

”Clearly they have a vested interest in the status quo, so they’re more concerned about their bottom line than they are about road safety,” Stockdale said.
…The AA is ”likely” to support the government’s plans, Stockdale said, however it would lobby for education of motorists to take more responsibility for car safety.

”There’s no evidence whatsoever from the [government’s proposals] that frequency of inspection has any bearing on vehicle safety.”

And The MTA is not the only Vested interest fighting reform.
The Revenue gathering, Power tripping Police always always bawk against any reforms and are being true to form when we read them using the exact same fear mongering tactics as the MTA to maintain the status quo.
The reforms will mean a reduction in their capacity to fine New Zealanders simply because of the date on the sticker on your windshield.

And they do the same thing when it comes to Law reform which increase liberty and reduce their powers to interfere with our lives. They are also very quick to leap at opportunities to reduce liberty and increase their powers. Eg which Drugs.
The Police revert to fear mongering every time discussion is raised about Cannabis decriminalization, and always support the introduction of New prohibitions such as have occurred against NOS, BZP and synthetic Cannabinoids.

The exceptions to this rule are so rare as to be extraordinary.

Yet to anyone with a modicum of political wisdom knows that this is to be expected from vested interests and political powers.
It’s the nature of the beast.
Though this sort of self interested activism has become the norm for the Police, it is in fact a very serious breach of the principle of the separation of powers!
The Police ought to have nothing to do with the writing or reform of any legislation as they are not impartial… they are vested interest, whom consistently lobby for their own profit and power!
This is a most vile impingement on justice!
It is crippling to the Rights and liberties of the people, and halts enlightened social progress!

It is sad to know that such patently subversive campaigns are usually successful in duping the multitudes into wanting to maintain extortion rackets, and oppression… even though the people spinning the yarns literally wear badges of Collaboration upon their chests!

I congratulate the AA for speaking out in the best interests of their members… the motoring public.
It makes I nice change from the many instances of their own complicity with tyranny when it was in their vested interest to do so… eg when they supported the government robbing drivers of their lifetime licenses… and got into the Licensing of drivers business, and when they Backed up the Auckland city council’s draconian buss lane Mega tyranny… and got into the enforcement and fines business.
