How does this effect the righteousness of their cause?
Some would say…. Such a pact with Satan negates their whole enterprise…. yet I was thinking about this today… and curiously my mind turned to WW2 and Churchill’s and Roosevelt’s pact with Stalin …. for the sake of defeating Hitler.
Hitler was defeated… yet does this justify Churchill’s and Roosevelt’s getting into bed with such a monster????
We all know that after the War Stalin became the greatest threat to Western civilisation and that the ‘Cold war’… and other communists conflicts in Korea, Vietnam, etc gained support from the USSR…. yet I would be interested in hearing opinions from those who oppose supporting the Syrian rebels because they are allied to Al Qeada…. yet condone the Pact between the Allies and the USSR in WW2.
What would have happened had Stalin been left unsupported and Hitler had been allowed to Conquer the USSR…. simply because Churchill and Roosevelt had refused to ‘ally’ with Stalin?????
Should not the Rebels accept help from Al Qeada to defeat Bashar al-Assad… and after that… take on Al Qaeda…. just as we did with the USSR *after* WW2?
Do you appreciate the dilemma I am presenting to ye who castigate the Syrian rebels on the basis that they have accepted aid from Al Qaeda?
I would be interested to hear what ye Arm Chair Field Marshals, Sages, and Peaceniks have to say on such matters.
If you condone the pact made with Stalin… for the expedience of defeating Hitler…. should you not also sympathise with the Syrian Rebels allying themselves with Al Qaeda?

Any simplistic compromise on this results in a victory for terrorism. The solution is far more complex. I urge my Christian brothers and sisters to preach the Gospel of God's grace through Christ! How much weight should a person like myself ... a man with political ambitions, and who also has difficulty getting to bed before midnight.... place on such assertions?
Am I supposed to believe that I stay up late 'scheming' and 'revolutionizing'....and that typically my latest activism being putting myself into the Local body Elections for the Hamilton city Council... is real evidence.... not of the fact that because I work a 10 hour day, that the night time is my only opportunity to defend and promote my Ideals and values...
Not because I really give a shit about Freedom and Justice....
Not because of carrying the weight that because There is no one else.... not one other Libertarian Candidate standing in Hamilton... that unless I step up... no one will...
Not because of my conviction that not to stand, means Evil must prevail...
But instead.... according to this 'Study'....that All those Ideas that *I believe* and hold dear are instead... evidence of my Narcissism... My Psychopathy.... My Machaelellianism????

What pains me the most is that my own Wife thinks this is so.
It is indescribably painful when the person who has spent the last 20 years with you and is supposed to be closest to you... and is supposed to understand your Heart and Soul... can write off your most cherished Beliefs and values... as merely personal Vanity!
I stagger in contemplation that even my own wife thinks I'm a Fraud!
Obviously she does not give a Rat's arse about the things I hold Dear.
I write this Blog with full confidence that unless someone tells her about my comments here ....she will never know about them.
She never bothers to read my work.... she obviously has more important... Less Diabolical... things on her mind.

I know that.
Do I have an over-inflated sense of my own importance?
I know that my chances for success at the elections are no better than the other 8-10 times I have stepped forward.
Is that in itself a valid reason for me not to bother?
Should I appreciate and submit to that?
I hear Satan's Laughter... and cackling of the mob.

How can my wife believe I do this for fun.... for Vanity?
It's an Ordeal.

Reducing bureaucratic interference with private property, individual liberty, and business will allow you to realize your full potential.
Hamiltonian’s interests are best served when Council keeps costs down.
Lower rates means lower rents, and ultimately lower food and petrol bills.
Lower rates gives Hamilton business’s the greatest advantage to compete both domestically and globally.
While you forge a brighter future, I’ll focus on the reduction of city debt and rates by running a tight ship.
Council should stick to essential utilities.
I will promote community interests by soliciting philanthropy from the Private sector, encouraging voluntary community initiatives to develop art, charity and culture.
Let’s think smart, and aim for success.

The real rationale for pushing these two inter-related Bills is more prosaic.
The common description of the Government Communications Security Bureau and Related Legislation Amendment Bill (aka “GCSB Bill) has been that this allows the GCSB to spy on all New Zealanders.
This is correct.
Literally, correct. The Bill, alongside it’s barely acknowledged “sister-Bill” – the Telecommunications (Interception Capability and Security) Amendment Bill – is designed deliberately to mandate the GCSB to spy on all New Zealanders.
Everyone.
Not just criminals.
Not just left-wing radicals.
Not just Maori nationalists.
Not just anti-TPPA acctivists. Or environment campaigners. Or trade unionists.
In fact, those people aren’t the real targets at all.
The targets are all New Zealanders.

When I decided on a scientific career, one of the things that appealed to me about science was the modesty of its practitioners. The typical scientist seemed to be a person who knew one small corner of the natural world and knew it very well, better than most other human beings living and better even than most who had ever lived. But outside of their circumscribed areas of expertise, scientists would hesitate to express an authoritative opinion. This attitude was attractive precisely because it stood in sharp contrast to the arrogance of the philosophers of the positivist tradition, who claimed for science and its practitioners a broad authority with which many practicing scientists themselves were uncomfortable.
The temptation to overreach, however, seems increasingly indulged today in discussions about science. Both in the work of professional philosophers and in popular writings by natural scientists, it is frequently claimed that natural science does or soon will constitute the entire domain of truth. And this attitude is becoming more widespread among scientists themselves. All too many of my contemporaries in science have accepted without question the hype that suggests that an advanced degree in some area of natural science confers the ability to pontificate wisely on any and all subjects.
Of course, from the very beginning of the modern scientific enterprise, there have been scientists and philosophers who have been so impressed with the ability of the natural sciences to advance knowledge that they have asserted that these sciences are the only valid way of seeking knowledge in any field. A forthright expression of this viewpoint has been made by the chemist Peter Atkins, who in his 1995 essay “Science as Truth” asserts the “universal competence” of science. This position has been called scientism — a term that was originally intended to be pejorative but has been claimed as a badge of honor by some of its most vocal proponents. In their 2007 book Every Thing Must Go: Metaphysics Naturalized, for example, philosophers James Ladyman, Don Ross, and David Spurrett go so far as to entitle a chapter “In Defense of Scientism.”
Modern science is often described as having emerged from philosophy; many of the early modern scientists were engaged in what they called “natural philosophy.” Later, philosophy came to be seen as an activity distinct from but integral to natural science, with each addressing separate but complementary questions — supporting, correcting, and supplying knowledge to one another. But the status of philosophy has fallen quite a bit in recent times. Central to scientism is the grabbing of nearly the entire territory of what were once considered questions that properly belong to philosophy. Scientism takes science to be not only better than philosophy at answering such questions, but the only means of answering them. For most of those who dabble in scientism, this shift is unacknowledged, and may not even be recognized. But for others, it is explicit. Atkins, for example, is scathing in his dismissal of the entire field: “I consider it to be a defensible proposition that no philosopher has helped to elucidate nature; philosophy is but the refinement of hindrance.”
Is scientism defensible? Is it really true that natural science provides a satisfying and reasonably complete account of everything we see, experience, and seek to understand — of every phenomenon in the universe? And is it true that science is more capable, even singularly capable, of answering the questions that once were addressed by philosophy? This subject is too large to tackle all at once. But by looking briefly at the modern understandings of science and philosophy on which scientism rests, and examining a few case studies of the attempt to supplant philosophy entirely with science, we might get a sense of how the reach of scientism exceeds its grasp.
