What’s the difference between a minarchist and an anarchist? About 6 months.
That’s the joke. Well, I suppose it’s funny. Because it took me 12 years to make the transition (and we’re still waiting on my co-blogger Tim).
But, all joking aside, what’s the difference between a minarchist and an anarchist?
(You may or may not like the following definitions. But they’re the ones I’m using. 🙂 )
An anarchist is a person who believes in, advocates, or promotes anarchism. Anarchism is
a political theory holding all forms of governmental authority to be unnecessary and undesirable and advocating a society based on voluntary cooperation and free association of individuals and groups
A minarchist is a person who believes in, advocates, or promotes minarchism. Minarchism (also known as minimal statism) is
a political philosophy and a form of libertarianism. … it holds that states ought to exist (as opposed to anarchy); that their only legitimate function is the protection of individuals from aggression, theft, breach of contract, and fraud; and that the only legitimate governmental institutions are the military, police, and courts.
Minarchist and anarchist are both species of libertarian. They’re both for freedom. But a minarchist is a minimal statist, whereas an anarchist is against the state entirely. That’s the nub of their disagreement.
So why am I an anarchist? Because I’m a libertarian! Quod erat demonstrandum.
Here’s the argument in a nutshell. A libertarian is for freedom and thereby against all forms of compulsion or coercion. The state is that organization that acquires its revenue by physical coercion and achieves a compulsory monopoly of force and of ultimate decision-making power over a given territorial area. Therefore a libertarian is against the state as a matter of principle.
The argument above is valid, but of course its conclusion is only as good as its premises and these are open to question. Is a libertarian necessarily against all forms of compulsion or coercion? I’ve argued elsewhere that libertarians are huge fans of initiating force. All freedoms are good but some freedoms are better than others. Is freedom from minimal state (minarchist) coercion a genuine freedom of the right kind? I say so, but a minarchist might beg to differ.
And what about Murray Rothbard’s definition of the state? Is it correct? Does it rule in organisations that are not states, or rule out those that are? For example, suppose that a hypothetical minarchy one day decided to abolish compulsory taxation and fund its minimal state activities by voluntary donations only. Would it still be a state, or would it now be an autonomous collective of some sort, such as an anarcho-syndicalist commune? The latter, according to Rothbard, since it is in the nature of a state that it acquire its revenue by physical coercion.
I reserve the right to secede from New Zealand, either alone or in free association with like-minded others. (I already declared that I am a governing authority.) In my next post I explain why I am an anarcho-statist.

Federal killings at Ruby Ridge, Idaho began 23 years ago today. Below are some articles I wrote on this case in 1995. Also included is the counterattack on my Wall Street Journal piece from FBI director Louis Freeh, who claimed that I “grossly mischaracterized” the details of the FBI’s killing of Vicki Weaver.
I wonder how much controversy such a killing would excite nowadays. It is amazing how much further government prerogatives have stretched in the past two decades. And it is perhaps even more amazing how much more docile many Americans have become towards unmitigated government BS.

It’s about our personal values… and having faith that as an individual you have value and purpose.
There is nothing wrong with fame and wealth… it’s much better than poverty… yet the question is how you employ your wealth and use your fame… and thus we see many celebrities attempting to use their fame for Social good.
Now It is ‘easier’ for the wealthy to pursue their higher values when they have the financial security.
And the first ethic that we as individuals need to respect and find pride in is… *Living by the sweat of our own Brow*…. not off the sweat and toil of others… and so May I suggest that *even if we are achieving little else* yet we are surviving by honest means… then we ought to be happy about that and start to have self esteem.
Then *after this* if we can fulfill other values… like maybe charitable work… giving a helping hand or bring comfort to someone in strife , or creating something good ,… or even appreciating the world in which we have been placed…and the God that put us here… these will without doubt bring more happiness than the fickle lusts for fame, glory, ….for glory’s sake alone… because as these famous people say… such fame is hollow… meaningless…
Yet still when a person is lost in the Godless delusions of Materialist atheist, there is no objective basis for morality or value…. why be good?… when good is nothing objectively real?
Why care?…. if you believe human beings are nothing but animated space dust?
The great dilemma for atheists can be the glaring contradiction of an inner psychological need to think of themselves as Good people… in a universe that they think the term Good as being merely a figment of their imagination… an inner drive they are taught is nothing more than a genetic urge that is supposed to perpetuate the survival of those genes.
The day that any individual sees the light…. that God exists and that he created Humanity for a purpose, and that Goodness and morality are in fact objective realities…. and that All this can be found in the Person and work of Jesus Christ… in that day when an individual chooses to trust Christ… they are born anew… their eyes are opened… and they realise they exist in a Universe of purpose, value and meaning.
Ultimately when I die… I hope to meet God my Father and have him say that in spite of my many shortcomings… that I did well.

My late father was a good keen outdoorsman. He loved sailing and hiking but back in the early ’70s we lived in the Midlands in the heart of England, a long way from bodies of water bigger than puddles and mountain peaks worth climbing.
Also my father worked in the British motor industry and in the early ’70s he could see that the industry was starting to tank. So he and my mother decided that the family would emigrate to somewhere with bigger wilderness and better job prospects. IIRC, the options were the U.S, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand. Fortunately, my mother vetoed the U.S., otherwise we might have ended up in Detroit. We emigrated to New Zealand in 1975 and settled in Wellington.
I’m glad that we did. I still have a bond with the mother country but I’m a Kiwi now. I spent my childhood in England but grew up in Godzone. When I became an adult I also became a NZ citizen. So to cut a long story short, what I’m getting around to saying is that because of my background I’m personally rather fond of the current NZ flag. It consists of the Union Jack which represents the land of my birth and the Southern Cross which represents my adopted homeland. But I’m not voting to keep it. Why not?
Now don’t get me wrong. I’m not voting to change to the John Key tea towel design either. I’m not voting in the second flag referendum and I didn’t vote in the first. Why not?
Firstly, because my vote won’t make a difference. The current flag is winning in all the recent opinion polls by a clear margin. Twice as many people are against change as are for it. I’m calling the result of the second flag referendum now. No change.
Secondly, because no one can change my flag. I don’t have a flag! I don’t want a flag, but if did I could have any flag I wanted and stick it on a pole and fly it. Many Kiwis already fly the unofficial New Zealand flag, the silver fern. Good on them. Go the All Blacks! No worries.
We have 99 problems in NZ – a fucking flag isn’t one of them.
Voting only encourages these arseholes.
Fourthly, because the entire flag referendum process is a needless waste of money which would be better spent elsewhere and I refuse to sanction it by voting. Flag this irrelevant debate and spend $26m on hungry kids. Is what the government would have better done instead.
Fifthly, because a state-initiated binding referendum is a slap in the face to the hundreds of thousands of Kiwis who’ve signed petitions to get non-binding citizens-initiated referendums on things that actually matter, such as reducing the number of MPs in Parliament, not reducing the number of firefighters in the New Zealand fire service, not being criminalised for smacking their children, and so on. All to no avail.
Sixthly, because I’m the founder and co-leader of Not A Party and it is incumbent on me to set a good example. 🙂
Seventhly, because how the gang that runs New Zealand chooses to brand the monopoly on violence it claims and maintains over the country’s territorial area is none of my business.
Eighthly, because when all is said and done it’s just a coloured rectangular piece of cloth and so not worth fighting over.

Jake Morphonios discusses breaking news regarding the elite FBI strike force that set up the ambush and murder of LaVoy Finicum. The task force is now under criminal investigation by both the Deschutes Oregon County Sheriff’s Office and the US Justice Department’s Inspector General’s Office.
It is fantastic to see that there are still some Law enforcement departments with integrity enough to perform their duty in a professional manor and test the FBI story of killing a ‘Domestic Terrorist’…. FBI via the evidence…. and what they have found is Damnable towards the FBI.
They used provocation, *Planned* and executed this murder of an upright American Patriot, in such a manor as to fabricate a litany of Lies… and this ongoing investigation could lead to criminal prosecutions of these ‘Special FBI agents’ who not only set the Ambush up in such a way as to make it impossible to stop in time, but clearly lied about their use of firearms.
For People like myself who live outside the US, it is fantastic to see how the roll of ‘Sherrif’ comes to the fore on these situations where the Feds are involved.
And it has been Sheriffs whom have been at the forefront of the defense of the Patriots and Cowboys as they have been trampled underfoot by the FBI and BLM.
*After being fired upon while still in his pick up, Lavoy decided his best hope was to get to the refuge of the Grant County Sheriff whom was expected to be in attendance of the Public meeting Lavoy and co were travelling to attend… yet he would never make it.
*This whole episode was absolutely unnecessary*.
*The Patriots were a threat to no-one*
*The FBI wanted to create an escalation*
* They carried out their Crime where there were no witnesses, nor any Cell phone coverage*
*Their blockade and firing upon the vehicle was against procedure and acted rashly*
*They Murdered Lavoy in cold blood, and needlessly endangered the lives of others*
*They almost certainly planted a gun on him*
*They blanked out the Audio and degraded to footage that was released to the public*
*They told lies about what happened, and about the use of their firearms*.

PRAISE THE LORD! The Federal Government is facing serious resistance from many of these local State law enforcement personnel whom still uphold their oaths to the Constitution and the People they serve… *Above the political Elites* in Washington.
And The American peoples need to count on such Brave and principled Men and woman will increase by the hour as their country marches ever closer to the Fiscal Cliff… and Civil War.

A few minutes ago, marked 2 years since this Heroic young man Won his Battle against Cancer.
I say he *won* because he lived life like a champ right to the very end… and kept his soul free of bitterness.
So many of us live longer… but not better.
Ultimately Life is not about how Rich or Famous you become… how cool the bike is that you ride, etc but how you play the cards that you have been dealt… and Scott played his hand like a master of the Game….with supreme courage and grace.
It was inspirational to witness his strength of character…. his determination to enjoy life… and to value his family and friends.
He was an Ambassador and spokesman for plight of Children and young people with medical afflictions, we all must remember him and contribute generously to Charities that are there fighting the fight for us.
Scott is one person definitely on my Hero list, and a person I will enjoy talking to when I have passed over into the Kingdom of our gracious and loving Heavenly Father.
Death is not the end.
